About Margueritruten Compass
A free companion for Denmark's great scenic loop — the Margueritruten. We catalogue every section, town and landmark you pass so you always know what's around the next bend, and we'll get you back on the route if you lose the signs.
What is the Margueritruten?
The Margueritruten is a single, signposted touring route that loops through every region of Denmark — roughly 4,218 kmof mostly minor roads, deliberately routed past the castles, coastline and countryside that the motorways skip. Commissioned by the Danish Tourist Board in 1991, it was named for Queen Margrethe II's favourite flower.
You follow it by watching for a small brown roadside sign with a yellow daisy. Where you see the daisy, you're still on the route. It runs as a continuous loop across nine regions — from Skagen at the northern tip, down through Jutland's heaths, over Funen, and through Zealand and the southern islands — taking in around two hundred headline attractions and a thousand smaller points of interest.
Why we built this
The route is wonderful to drive and surprisingly hard to plan around. The signs tell you where to turn but not what you're passing, the official material is thin, and the daisy is easy to lose at a busy junction. This site is the answer: an entity-by-entity guide to the whole loop that works from the passenger seat.
For every section there's a map and an overview; for every town, how far it sits from the route and what's there; for every landmark, directions, a photo and the story. And when you do lose the daisy, our WhatsApp route-finder will guide you back.
