Sønderjylland — the Marguerite Route through South Jutland

Denmark's borderland layers Danish and German history along the way. The Marguerite Route starts from Ribe — the country's oldest town, with its storks and cathedral — crosses the tidal Wadden Sea National Park, where autumn brings the 'black sun' of starling murmurations, and runs south past Dybbøl's 1864 battlefield toward the market town of Tønder and the German frontier.

The Marguerite Route is Denmark’s 4,203 km signed scenic byway, marked by the brown daisy sign and divided into 8 regional sections. The full route is shown faintly on the map below for context.
