Overview

If you have time

Gyllingnæs Manor is a relatively young manor house on the tip of the Gyllingnæs peninsula in Horsens Fjord, south of Odder in East Jutland. The estate was created by an English merchant and occupies a prominent position facing the fjord. Although the manor and its grounds are private and not open to visitors, you can still enjoy distant views of the buildings and their setting from paths along the coastline. For Margueritruten drivers, it is mainly a landscape stop, combining sea, fields and a sense of classic Danish manor-country scenery.

Visit Gyllingnæs Manor for the coastal scenery and to see one of East Jutland’s younger manor estates in a striking fjord setting. You cannot enter the manor itself, but a walk along the shoreline of the peninsula offers views towards the house and across Horsens Fjord, making it a quiet detour for those interested in historic estates and open landscapes.

Worth a detour mainly for the fjord views and coastal walk, rather than the manor itself.

Planning your visit

How long to stay
30–60 minutes for a short coastal walk with views towards the manor and fjord.
Best time to visit
Daytime in clear weather, when visibility along Horsens Fjord is good and the manor can be seen from the coastal path. Longer days in late spring to early autumn make it easier to combine a walk on the peninsula with other nearby stops, and conditions are generally more pleasant for being outdoors by the water.

Frequently asked

Can I visit inside Gyllingnæs Manor or its grounds?
No, Gyllingnæs Manor is a private estate and there is no public access to the manor house or its grounds. You can, however, see the buildings from outside the property on a walk along the coast of the Gyllingnæs peninsula. Plan your visit as a landscape stop, focusing on the fjord views rather than entry to the manor itself.
How can I see Gyllingnæs Manor from the Margueritruten?
You cannot drive directly up to Gyllingnæs Manor as a visitor, but you can view it from public areas along the coastline of the peninsula. From the Margueritruten near Odder, make a short detour towards Gyllingnæs and continue on foot where access allows. From coastal paths you get distant views of the manor and Horsens Fjord.
Is there a walking route near Gyllingnæs Manor?
There is no formal visitor trail described here, but you can see Gyllingnæs Manor on a hike along the coast of the Gyllingnæs peninsula. The manor itself remains private, so treat any walk as a coastal outing, staying on public paths and focusing on the fjord scenery and views towards the estate from a distance.
How long should I plan to spend at Gyllingnæs Manor on a road trip?
As you cannot go inside the manor or grounds, most visitors only need a short stop. Around half an hour to an hour is usually enough for a brief walk along the coast, a look towards the manor, and some time to enjoy the Horsens Fjord views before moving on to other nearby stops such as Gylling Church or The Mill in Gylling.
Is Gyllingnæs Manor suitable for photographers?
Gyllingnæs Manor can work for landscape photography, especially if you like wide views over Horsens Fjord with a distant manor in the scene. You will be shooting from the coastline rather than close up, so bring a lens suitable for capturing both wider fjord panoramas and more compressed views of the estate from afar.
